Lexmark Ink Cartridges
The Lexmark Impact S305 3-in-1
Inkjet Printer is sold with the Lexmark 100 standard ink cartridges, all of
which are rated at less than 200 pages and do not represent good value. When
you purchase replacement cartridges for this printer, we recommend that you
purchase the high-performance 100XL ink cartridges up to 600 pages. These
cartridges will produce the lowest cost per print and also mean that you will
have fewer cartridge changes.
The Lexmark Impact S305 has a
fairly simple design, with no extra paper trays or document feeder of the most
expensive models in the range, but it still has several useful extras.
The paper feeds on a foldable tray
at the back with a small spring flap in the front that no one seems to be able
to explain the reason for. We thought this was to prevent the dust from
slipping to the feed slot, but even when the tray is fully loaded, there is
still a large gap between the stack of paper and this flap.
The Contact Image Sensor (CIS)
scanner is simple and slim, thus adds little to the total height of the machine
and extends over its entire width, so there is no extra piece taken by a panel
control. The control panel is placed at an angle protruding from the front of
the machine, similar to all the new all-in-one Lexmark. It has a simple mono
LCD screen, although it is a bitmap, rather than two lines of 16 characters, so
may display limited graphics information.
Set in the front right corner of
the machine are two memory card slots, but there is additionally a PictBridge
jack for direct connection of the camera, which can take USB drives.
Despite the low price, the Lexmark
Impact S305 maintains a wireless connection and a USB port on the back. The
wireless configuration is fairly simple and the machine supports WEP, WPA and
WPA2 security. It comes with a good package of support software, including a
copy of the Abbyy Finereader OCR.
